Can I get out of a lease

Posted by B2004 901 days ago

I can't afford to live in my apartment any longer. I've tried talking to the landlord, but they say that I need to pay the rest of rent to move out. I can't afford to do that.

Is there anyway I can get out of my lease? If I just move out, what will happen to me?

A lease is a legally binding contract. You can't get out of it unless your landlord is failing to meet one of their ends of the deal (unsafe facilities, structural damage, etc).

If you move out without paying the remaining part of your lease, your credit will essentially be ruined. Your landlord will more than likely give the debt to a debt collection company and they will harass you for payment until you make it.
