I have about $3,000 in savings to move out and I live in Kansas. Apartments aren't too expensive here, but I was wondering how much I should have before I move out?

You need at least three month's expenses, and that's being conservative. It also depends on your type of job.
If you had a job that was almost recession proof, like a teacher or police officer, I would say take the risk and move with $3k. If your were in an unstable field though, like computers or manufacturing, I'd say have 6 months expenses saved up before you move out.
It all comes down to the pressure you're facing to move out and your job.
